On October 14, Keys Gate Charter High and the National Guard hosted our 4th Annual College Fair. Each year, our College Advisor, Ms. Singh aims to increase participation from both students and colleges represented. Our first year we had about 150 students attend, the second year 290, our 3rd year 489 and this year we are happy to announce that all 1170 high school students were able to attend. This increase was largely due to a change in time and venue. As an experiment, we decided to organize our fair during the school day. While this presented more challenges than a night fair, we forged ahead, because in the past we had noticed that many students were not able to attend to due to transportation. The Guidance Department firmly believes that college and career exploration increases student achievement, and that it why we worked so hard to ensure that every student would have the opportunity have this experience.
In addition, our partnership with the National Guard allowed us to continue another unique tradition at our fairs. We always serve a delicious Jerk Chicken lunch with rice and beans, garden salad, and home sweet tea for our college representatives who are gracious enough to attend our fair. The food is always a hit and allows representatives to remember our school in unique way. Rumor has it that, Keys Gate has the best food on the Florida College Tour. We hope to continue to improve and grow for our 5th Annual College Fair in 2016.
